SAN MARCOS- Texas State Career Services offers students opportunities to develop a career path through a variety of tools, such as online resources and networking events.
Career Services helps strengthen student’s professional skills and increases their chance with finding their dream job while preparing for the future. At a press conference Tuesday, advisor Emily Trepainer explained the range of benefits for professional skill enhancement.
Students that wish to take advantage of the employer relations can attend one of the 22 career events offered throughout the year for every major. To stand out among the average 20 to 70 employers at the career fair, Career Services suggests for attendees to come in professional dress and with a stack of resumes.
According to the Career Services website, “A complete list of employers attending [each event] will be available in Jobs4Cats or by downloading the Career Fair App.”
Jobs4Cats is an online resource that allows students to reach out electronically to employers and search for on campus and off campus jobs as well as internships. Students are able to modify, filter and search for positions on this online search engine sponsored by Handshake.
“It’s not just on campus, but off campus internships, full time positions, and even out of state,” Trepanier said. “You can go as far as Alaska or internationally to China. We have all kinds of things in there.”
Career Services offers an etiquette dinner every spring semester to students who wish to practice how to handle themselves at a meal with their future boss. This three-course meal is free and tickets are available for pickup in the Career Services office.
“What [Career Services] has found is that employers are getting really creative with their interview process,” Trepanier said. “So a lot of time they’ll take people to a lunch or a dinner and they’ll see how you handle yourself in a meal situation because a lot of the time once you’re in that situation in the real world, you’re out networking.”
